CHARLES V AND THE ORDER OF MALTA

The Order of Saint John of Jerusalem or the Order of Malta played a key role in the geopolitical conformation of the Europe of our time and in the international relations that are worth studying and analysing in order to explain in a summer course the singularities and most relevant historical events of the Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem at the time of Charles V in a summer course; the great Spanish Masters of the Order during that period; Malta´s role in the Mediterranean emperor’s foreign and military policy; the rite of annual infeudation of handing over the Maltese falcon demanded by Charles V; the investiture ceremony to become part of the Order; the iconography of the Maltese knights during the time of Charles V; the relationship between Empire, Papacy and Malta and the Europeanist vocation and political and religious thinking of Charles V.
