Masa Coral de Mineros de Almadén Offers a Concert in Yuste Sponsored by the European Heritage Label
Masa Coral de Mineros de Almadén will offer a concert tomorrow, Saturday, 28th June at 1:00 p.m., in the church of the Monastery of San Jerónimo de Yuste. The event is organised by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, Minas de Almadén – Parque Minero, and Patrimonio Nacional. (27/06/2025)
The group will perform a specially selected repertoire for the occasion, coinciding with the anniversary of the Minas de Almadén being declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 30th June 2012. The programme includes mining songs, seguidillas manchegas (traditional folk songs from La Mancha), Marian chants, and other songs that miners used to sing while working.
This musical event is part of the project “Integrating European Values into Cultural Heritage” and is co-financed by the European Union through the Creative Europe programme under the European Heritage Label, with the collaboration of the European Heritage Label Bureau.
Masa Coral de Mineros de Almadén
The origins of Masa Coral can be traced back to the various choirs that had existed previously, with this particular group emerging in 1940 under the auspices of the Obra Sindical de Educación y Descanso (Syndical Organisation for Education and Leisure), which brought together a range of cultural, musical and theatrical expressions from across the country. Masa Coral is part of the Asociación de la Música de Almadén (Almadén Music Association).
The musical group has gone through several phases, but it was in 1989, with the founding of the Association, that Masa Coral gained greater momentum. It currently comprises thirty male voices and is conducted by Miguel Oviedo Segador.
