The European Academy of Yuste Foundation, which holds the secretariat of the Network, has taken part in the board of directors’ and general meeting of the European Routes of Emperor Charles V Network, held on 16 and 17 December at the Portuguese Academy of History in Lisbon. The Network’s scientific committee meeting was also held, with representatives from Belgium, France, Portugal, Italy, and Spain attending, in which they outlined the strategic directions of the European Cultural Itinerary of the Charles V Routes.
At the board of directors’ and general meeting the 2016 activities report was approved, along with the programme of activities proposed for 2017, and the amendment of statutes for the integration of the various countries represented in the Cooperation Network to the board of directors. Some of the activities planned for the coming year are the commemoration of the 5th Centenary of the arrival of Charles of Habsburg to Castile; the introduction of the Routes of Charles V Tourism Product Club; historical depictions and re-enactments, workshops, courses and music concerts on Charles V, as well as the Network’s promotional and marketing activities. The Regional Government of Extremadura’s inclusion on the board of directors was also approved, through the general director of Tourism from the German city of Mülhlberg and the Elbe-Elster district.
The Alhambra and Generalife’s board of trustees’ inclusion on the board was also approved, as well as the Regional Government of Rioja, Laguna del Duero and Mülhberg Town Councils, joining as new members.
Finally, the members of the Cooperation Network paid a visit to Almeirim municipality, the place where the “marriage by procuration” between Charles V and Isabella of Portugal took place. They were received by the mayor of the city who showed his enthusiasm for being part of the European Routes of Emperor Charles V Cooperation Network.
