The Yuste Foundation presents a book in Madrid that portrays the multifaceted figure of Rubén Darío

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation presented the book Rubén Darío. 100 años después. Estudios (Rubén Darío. 100 Years Later. Studies) in Madrid. It is a complete view of the Nicaraguan poet that serves to gain more knowledge about the literary figure whose greatness made him be considered the father of Hispanic American contemporary poetry and the leading representative of Spanish literary Modernism.

The Academic Director of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, César Chaparro; the Ambassador of Nicaragua in Spain, Carlos Antonio Midence; the Director of External Relations of the SEGIB, María Salvadora Ortiz and one of the coordinators of this publication and professor of Language and Literature at the University of Extremadura, José Luis Bernal Salgado, participated in the presentation of this monograph that took place at the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB).  In addition, the Director of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, Juan Carlos Moreno as well as other diplomatic representatives from the Nicaraguan Embassy as are the Minister Counsellor, Milagros Urbna; the Diplomatic Attaché, Javier Munguía and the Head for Cultural Affairs, Violeta Chamorro, attended the presentation.

A century after his death, the work of Rubén Darío keeps fuelling and rekindling the literary debate and numerous studies, as these published in this monograph which compiles the work carried out by the researchers who participated in the scientific encounter “Rubén Darío: 100 años después” (“Rubén Darío: 100 Years Later”)   celebrated in Cáceres, in November 2016, emerge around his multifaceted figure.

In this sense, the Academic Director of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, César Chaparro, pointed out that this publication is “a new opportunity to acquire a detailed understanding of the person and work of Félix Rubén García Sarmiento, known as Rubén Darío, poet, journalist, and a Nicaraguan diplomat”. He has furthermore argued that with such publications the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation “demonstrably contributes to the development of culture”, but a culture understood as “a cultivation of great values based on the assimilation of wisdom, knowledge and ideas that serve as oxygen in our lives in a process inspired by a permanent dialogue”, he added.

Rubén Darío. 100 años después. Estudios is the first volume of the “Entre dos mundos: América y Europa desde Extremadura” collection (“Between Two Worlds: America and Europe from Extremadura”), included in the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation’s editorial initiative, an entity which arises from the merger between the Extremaduran Centre for Studies and Cooperation with Ibero-America (CEXECI) and the European Academy of Yuste Foundation. According to Chaparro, this collection expresses “the new sensibility of this newly created institution”, where “the realities of Europe and Ibero-America are merged for a common and integrating purpose under the umbrella of this foundation, where the promising and committed projects of the Extremaduran society and of the nations and people of Europe and Latin America are united”.
