The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation and the Extremadura Agency for International Development Cooperation (AEXCID) have organised three conferences during the month of November: ‘Democratic governance and mass media’, ‘The gender equality approach’ and ‘Responses of integration in the face of migration and economic crisis’ that will take place on the 14th at the Assembly of Extremadura, on the 23rd at the Casa de la Mujer in Cáceres and on the 30th at the Hernán Cortés Residence Hall in Badajoz, respectively.
All the conferences, formulated in the Yuste Campus programme, are free of charge and are open to the society at large, taking place in the morning hours where the attendees will receive a certificate issued by the Foundation.
The first conference, ‘Democratic governance and mass media’, which will be held on November 14 at the Autonomía hall of the Assembly of Extremadura, will bring together experts and journalists to analyse the role of the mass media as a tool for visibilising the inequalities, and publicising the challenges to be faced in order to strengthen the institutions and promote democratic governance in all countries.
During the conference, there will be an in depth analysis of the situation of vulnerability of journalists in terms of exercising their work freely in the areas of conflict, as well as of the role they have in the fight against corruption and in improving the transparency of the democratic governments.
The speakers are Juan Luis Manfredi Sánchez, Ph.D. in Journalism from the University of Castilla-La Mancha; Elena Cabrera, Director of the Department of Journalism from the PorCausa Foundation; Silvia M. Pérez, Member Journalist from ‘La Mundial’; Ángel Sastre, Corresponding Journalist from ‘Cuatro’, ‘Onda Cero’ and a war correspondent; and finally Olmo Calvo, one of the most important social photographers at present.
These activities are a part of the project ‘Europe in the face of global challenges for the Development Cooperation’, funded by the AEXCID and aim to analyse, from Extremadura, the role of the European Union as a region that faces huge internal challenges of crisis and transformation within a global framework, and that in turn is committed to Sustainable Development as a global challenge in which the cooperation among the public and private figures and that of the civil society, as well as among the regions and countries, is fundamental to the achievement of shared objectives.
The conference on ‘The gender equality approach’, which will be held on November 23 at the Casa de la Mujer in Cáceres, will address the need to mainstream the gender approach at all the levels of society to fight against violence and discrimination suffered by women. The last activity, ‘Responses of Integration in the face of the migration and economic crisis’, will take place on November 30 at the Hernán Cortés Residence Hall in Badajoz, supported by the Council of Badajoz. All the conferences will be held in the morning hours.
