The European Academy of Yuste Foundation offers a total of 120 grants to cover registration, accommodation and upkeep costs at the international summer school of the 2015 Campus Yuste program. The grants are designed for students who are studying for official university qualifications during the 2014-2015 academic year in any of the countries of the European Union.
The courses on offer in the call for grants are as follows: The process of European integration and the challenges for the future of Europe within a federal context of Nation States, Perspectives and challenges of the European Union: Strategic components of energy from a global geopolitical perspective, Charles V and the idea of Europe: different interpretations and, finally, Religion in 21st-century Europe: challenges and proposals for confessional coexistence.
These Campus Yuste seminars, which form part of the international summer courses of the University of Extremadura, will take place during the months of July and October in a unique setting of great symbolic value for the European memory, namely the Royal Monastery of Yuste in the town of Cuacos de Yuste (Cáceres). Each course will have 30 places and the grants will be awarded upon the basis of the average mark of the applicants’ academic records. The deadline for the submitting of applications is 18 June, extended until 30 September for the October courses.

YUSTE CAMPUS 2015
Campus Yuste is the space created by the European Academy of Yuste Foundation for its training activities, based on encouraging discussion and the reflection of students, researchers and professionals on European affairs.
Campus Yuste consolidates this year and is one of the activities reinforced by the increase in the budget of the European Academy of Yuste Foundation this year, representing a 56% more compared to 2014, thanks to the support of the Government Extremadura.
The summer courses this year will address topics such as adaptation to the new labour markets from a European perspective, the Christian roots of Europe, the political facet of Emperor Charles V, the challenges of the European Union from the geopolitical point of view with regard to energy, the debate on the new European citizenship with the proposal for federalism as a possible form of organization and the analysis of the different religious confessions in Europe and the need to review their role in the 21st century. About a hundred European speakers are expected to attend the Campus Yuste.
The personal and professional training workshops to be taught within the course program are a new feature this year. They are designed to increase knowledge of oratory and negotiation, excellence in team building and communication and social networks for the development of the personal image.
It also includes the Summer Camp: Youth Up, Sharing Talent for Europe, a meeting which forms part of the Erasmus+ program promoted by the Rotary Club of Cáceres, bringing together young people from different European countries on a training program aimed at developing skills for working as a team and reinforcing the role of young people in the process of European integration.
Other courses this year at the Campus Yuste are From Yuste, bound for Europe, to be held from 24 to 26 June and aimed at young members of the Employment and Social Entrepreneurship Shuttles of Extremadura, and Yuste Dialogues: Christianity and Europe, which will be held on 29 June in collaboration with the Pontifical University of Salamanca.
COURSES COVERED BY GRANTS
• Charles V and the idea of Europe: different interpretations. 1 to 3 July
Directed by Professor Jaime Contreras from the University of Alcalá, the course will cover the political facet of the Emperor throughout his reign, the origin of the empire and the need to govern heterogeneous territories.
• Perspectives and challenges of the European Union: Strategic components of energy from a global geopolitical perspective. 6 to 9 July
The speakers and students will reflect on energy and its supply, environmental protection and the link between politics, economy, security and energy when international and internal conflicts take place. The course will be directed by Juan Manuel Rodríguez Barrigón, a professor at the University of Extremadura.
• The process of European integration and the challenges for the future of Europe within a federal context of Nation States. 13 to 16 July
The course will address the need to drive the European process forward in the wake of the severe crisis which has hit Europe and made its citizens and institutions seek reliable solutions and dispel the doubts about its viability. It will be directed by Professor Mario Pedro Díaz Barrado, a professor at the University of Extremadura.
• Religion in 21st-century Europe: challenges and proposals for confessional coexistence. 21 to 23 October
The seminar will analyse the different contributions made by religion to the recent history of Europa and reflect on and debate the possible solutions to allow confessional coexistence in Europa as a guarantee of peace, unity, equality and respect.
