In the final of the sixth regional contest between secondary schools on the prevention of drug abuse in the leisure and free time of the young people of Extremadura, held in the House of Culture in Navalmoral de la Mata, the members of the jury decided to award first place to the fourth-year pupils of the Instituto Extremadura Secondary school in Montijo, while second place went to the Instituto Turgalium in Trujillo.

The jury, made up of Delicia Prieto and Mónica Millán, the delegates of the Foundation against Drug Addiction in Extremadura, highlighted the work on display “because you have backed it up it with surveys, interviews and short-films featuring yourselves.” In addition, they emphasized the oratory of the group and the order of the topics discussed. As for the work of the Trujillo school, the jury made mention of the direct messages used and “the proposals you have made for non-consumption.”

The winners won a trip for 30 people to Warner Bros Park in Madrid in June while the runners-up won a similar trip to the Lusiberia Theme Park in Badajoz.

Organization of the competition

This is the sixth consecutive year of the competition, designed for fourth-year secondary education pupils and organized by the European Academy of Yuste Foundation and Navalmoral de la Mata Town Council. Its purpose is to encourage intervention processes aimed at the eradication, sensitization and prevention of situations leading to drug abuse. Each year three schools are selected in each province, with preliminary provincial semi-finals and then a final for the winning schools. The Cáceres semi-final and the final were held in Navalmoral de la Mata and the semi-final in the province of Badajoz took place in Almendralejo.
