“REVEALING CONFLICTS. JOURNALISM AND COMMUNICATION FOR INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION” SESSIONS
Badajoz on 16 and 17 February 2022.
The work of the media, as well as that of people who are engaged in creating content from the branches of journalism and the social sciences, has a fundamental role in the knowledge and analysis of the conflicts that society faces at global level. Their role is fundamental to establish strategies for international cooperation as they highlight injustices and threats to human rights.
These sessions aim to raise awareness of how international conflicts are addressed through communication and journalism, highlighting the importance of truthful and verified information allowing for in-depth and perspective analysis that avoids the trivialisation and instrumentalisation of these complex situations.
With this objective, various professionals in the field of communication, photojournalism, war correspondence and investigative journalism will share their experience of how accounts are constructed and information that can be used to analyse current issues such as the COVID pandemic, the climate emergency, refugee crises or the situation in countries with armed, political or social conflicts is transmitted.
The personal risks and difficulties faced by professionals seeking to access first-hand information in human rights threat contexts will also be addressed.
This activity is in line with the priority lines of action of the Extremaduran Cooperation Plan by strengthening capacities to foster more just, democratic societies, promoting a global, critical, supportive and transformative citizenship.
The target persons are students and professionals in the field of journalism and communication, as well as in the social sciences, diplomacy, international relations, political sciences, professionals from the world of cooperation and institutions working in the international arena.
The sessions “Revealing Conflicts. Journalism and Communication for International Cooperation” is a project of the Extremaduran Agency for International Development Cooperation (AEXCID), which will be carried out by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation within its Aula Abierta programme.
