The Board of Trustees of the European Academy of Yuste Foundation, which met today at the offices of the President of the Government of Extremadura in Mérida, decided to extend the range of candidacies which can compete for the Carlos V European Award, opening it up to projects and institutions which support European integration.

During the course of the meeting, chaired by Guillermo Fernández Vara, the head of the regional executive and the Chairman of the Board, approval was given to the modification of the Foundation’s Articles of Association, in order to achieve better operational management and to expand the range of candidacies which can compete for the Carlos V European Award.

The Board thus provides itself with the opportunity to reward projects, organizations and initiatives which, with their efforts, have contributed to the general understanding and enhancement of the cultural and historical values of Europe and/or the unification of the European Union.

The meeting also approved the activities and the annual accounts for 2014 and reported on the progress of the activities planned for 2015. Enrique Barrasa Sánchez, Director of the Foundation until now, stepped down from the position and, finally, a report was delivered on the current state of the call for entries for the tenth Carlos V European Award.

The meeting was also attended, on behalf of the Government of Extremadura, by Pilar Blanco-Morales Limones, Minister of Finance and Public Administration, and Fernando Blanco Fernández, General Secretary of the Presidency, as well as the following members of the Government of Extremadura who have taken office as trustees of the European Academy of Yuste Foundation: José Luis Navarro Ribera, Minister of the Economy and Infrastructure, Mª Esther Gutiérrez Morán, Minister of Education and Employment, José María Vergeles Blanca, Minister of Health and Social Policy, Isabel Gil Rosiña, Spokesperson, Carlos Javier Rodríguez Jiménez, Director of the Office of the Presidency, Miriam García Cabezas, General Secretary of Culture, Rosa Balas Torres, General Manager of External Action, Francisco Pérez Urbán, General Manager of Libraries, Museums and Cultural Heritage and Carmen Núñez Cumplido, General Manager of Social Policy and Child and Family.

It was also attended by the following trustees: Segundo Píriz Durán, Rector of the University of Extremadura; João Manuel Ferreira Martins, First Secretary for Political Affairs of the Portuguese Embassy and Georg Diwald, Minister Counsellor of the Austrian Embassy.

The Board of Trustees of the European Academy of Yuste Foundation is made up of representatives of the Government of Extremadura, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Government of Spain and the Governments of Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, Italy, Luxembourg and Belgium. The University of Extremadura, Caja Duero-Caja España and Jacques Delors, the former President of the European Commission and a winner of the Carlos V European Award,  also form part of it.
