It has also sent the latest issue of Pliegos de Yuste, its magazine on European culture, science and thought.
The European Academy of Yuste Foundation has sent a facsimile of the Will of Ferdinand the Catholic to the public libraries of Extremadura, the Royal Academy of Arts and Literature of Extremadura, the historical archives of Cáceres and Badajoz and the archives of the Provincial Councils of Cáceres and Badajoz in order to make it available to their users.
This facsimile, made by the Testimonio Compañía publishing house, has been republished by the Foundation and the Town Hall of Madrigalejo to mark the 5th Centenary of the monarch’s death in Madrigalejo, in the province of Cáceres. The work is a limited edition of the document signed by King Ferdinand on 22 January in the same year, a day before his death, accompanied by a historical introduction, while it also includes the full transcription of the will written on parchment, whose original is housed in the Library of the Casa de Alba Foundation.
In this way, the Foundation aims to outline to the users the European and Spanish cultural and historical legacy and heritage symbolised by the Will of Ferdinand the Catholic and underline the transcendental importance that his final testament had on the future of Spain and Europe, as it allowed his grandson Charles V to be crowned the year after his death as King of the Spains, including the overseas territories, and, 20 years later, as Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, leading to the historical union of Europe and the Americas.
Moreover, the European Academy of Yuste Foundation has sent issue number 16 of Pliegos de Yuste, its magazine on European culture, science and thought, on this occasion published under the title Federalism, integration and challenges for the future of Europe, to the public libraries of Extremadura, the Documentation Centres of Spanish universities and the library of the Provincial Councils of Cáceres and Badajoz. It is the latest issue of the magazine published by the Foundation, whose content is made up of contributions from the international summer course, titled “The process of European integration and the challenges for the future of Europe: participation, representation and democracy within a federal context of Nation States in the European Union”, held in July 2015 at the Royal Monastery of Yuste. The magazine is divided into four parts, which address the processes of European nationalization, integration and enlargement, the transition towards a federal Europe, the challenge of communication with regard to the European Union and the creation of European public opinion and the legal and economic implications of a federation of Nation States in the European Union. With this donation, the Foundation seeks to encourage debate and reflection on current-day European issues and bring the users of the libraries and documentation centres closer to the thinking of leading experts and professionals on the subject with the aims of creating a body of thought and critical reflection and promoting active European citizenship and an interest in European construction and integration. The Pliegos de Yuste magazine is also available on the Internet for anyone who wishes to read the different monographs already published on topical European issues at www.pliegosdeyuste.eu
