WEBINAR “SUSTAINABLE AND SOCIAL TOURISM FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT: NATURAL AND CULTURAL SPACES”
Online, on 25 February 2021
The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation is organising the webinar “Sustainable and Social Tourism for Rural Development: Natural and Cultural Spaces”, which will be held on 25 February at 17:30 pm and where José Antonio de Juan Alonso, managing partner of KOAN Consulting, and Ángela Aguilar Parra, founding partner of the Mindful Travel Destinations Alliance, as well as Felipe Sánchez Barba, Mayor of Guadalupe, will participate.
The development of sustainable and social tourism can be a source of socio-economic development of natural and unique environments and sites with a rich landscape and/or cultural heritage (as in the case of Guadalupe and other World Heritage Sites, Biosphere Reserves, or Natural Parks), and a pillar for combating the depopulation of the rural environment in a sustainable manner, thus also contributing to the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs, and offering medium and long-term solutions to alleviate the socio-economic consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic as well.
This can be done, for instance, through the development of Cultural, Landscape, Heritage, Historical or Thematic Routes, such as the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, as well as through other types of actions linked to nature tourism, or even sports.
To this end, it is important to analyse and understand the guidelines and aspects to be taken into account so that this is done and organised in a responsible manner, while ensuring the sustainability of the environment where these activities take place, and at the same time creating a social awareness that will enable us to develop initiatives that are in keeping with the protection of the environment, heritage and culture, and that serve to create new opportunities for development in unique and essential environments for life.
This is the first meeting in 2021 and it counts with the participation of experts in sustainable environmental and social tourism.
CYCLE OF MEETINGS “GUADALUPE DESTINO” (GUADALUPE AS A DESTINY)
On 2 August 2020, the Holy Year began in Guadalupe with the opening of the “Puertas del Perdón” (Gates of Forgiveness). The Law on General State Budgets for 2021, of 30 December, granted the “Holy Year of Guadalupe 2021” recognition as an event of exceptional public interest.
The main objective of these events is to promote and energise local culture and tourism, through the recovery, valuation and dissemination of cultural and natural heritage, the promotion of religious initiatives as a way of pilgrimage and the strengthening of ties with Ibero-America.
Yuste Foundation organises the Cycle of Meetings “Guadalupe as a Destiny” with the aim of promoting dialogue on issues of public interest such as governance, science, history and culture. To this end, it will involve personalities and experts in the fields of politics, science, history, and cultural and natural heritage.
Those interested can register for free in order to follow and participate with their questions filling in the form that will be active in the coming days.
The webinar can also be followed live through Yuste Foundation’s YouTube and Facebook profile.
