Yuste Foundation is saddened by the death of the distinguished editor and photographer Inge Schoenthal Feltrinelli, member of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation’s Board of Trustees, Academy and team regret the death of the Italian prestigious editor and photographer Inge Schoenthal Feltrinelli, who was member of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste since 2008 when she held the Clara Zetkin Chair during the Carlos V European Award ceremony. On the occasion, the Award was given by His Majesty King Juan Carlos to Simone Veil, former President of the European Parliament.

Feltrinelli was a renowned photographer who immortalised politicians, such as John Fitzgerald Kennedy and Winston Churchill; the actress Greta Garbo; the painter Pablo Picasso and the writer Ernest Hemingway with her camera. She was, furthermore, President of the editorial group Feltrinelli, publishing the works of authors such as, Isabel Allende, Manuel Vázquez Montalbán and Gabriel García Márquez under her leadership.

Inge Feltrinelli took up her post as Academician of Yuste on 18 June 2008, a day after she participated in a meeting held by the European Academy of Yuste in Cáceres, where the main topic was: “What all European pupils should know about Europe: Towards an interactive curriculum of European civilisation secondary school students”. The meeting was attended by the researcher of gerontology and geriatrics Ursula Lehr; politicians: Monica Luisa Macovei, Martti Ahtisaari and Marcelino Oreja; historians: Joaquim Veríssimo Serrão, Manuela Mendoça, Gustaaf Janssens, Manuel Fernández Álvarez and Paul Preston; sociologists: Tzvetan Todorov and Abram de Swaan and the mathematician Edoardo Vesentini.

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation’s Board of Trustees, Academy and team regret the great loss of a great person, intellectual and convinced Europeanist for European culture.
