The European Union and today’s challenges: nationalism, globalisation, terrorism, misinformation and immigration

Royal Monastery of Yuste, from 10th to 12th July 2019

Annual course organised jointly by the European and Ibero-American Academy Foundation of Yuste, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of the Government of Spain and the Jean Monnet EUHOPE+ Module on the History of the European Union, coordinated by the History of Present Time Department of the University of Extremadura, on the process of European integration, the perspectives and challenges of the European Union, its integration process, the analysis of current and pending challenges, and the search for perspectives that allow us to better understand this process and contribute positively thereto.

In 2019 it aims to analyse the major challenges facing the European Union today, such as nationalism, globalisation, terrorism and migratory movements, as well as other phenomena that endanger democracy and processes of citizen participation such as disinformation and false news that attempt to manipulate public opinion using Social Networks and new means of communication. We will also analyse Europe’s role in the world and, more specifically, its relations with Latin America in the new international context.
