2ND CONFERENCE “REVEALING CONFLICTS. JOURNALISM AND COMMUNICATION FOR INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION”, 2023.

Faculty of Documentation and Communication Sciences (Badajoz). On 1 and 2 March 2023.

After the success of the first edition and taking the palpable need to continue delving into the approach to international conflicts through communication and journalism into account, the 2nd conference entitled “Revealing Conflicts. Journalism, Communication and International Cooperation” has been organised.

The main objective of this project is to foster a critical global citizenship that is also committed to promoting peace and building more just and supportive societies. The current international crisis resulting from the conflict in Ukraine once again highlights the fundamental work of the media, as well as of those engaged in generating content from the fields of journalism and social sciences, in the knowledge and analysis of the challenges that society faces at a global level. Its role is paramount in establishing international cooperation strategies, making visible injustices and threats to human rights.

Various professionals in the field of communication, photojournalism, war correspondents and investigative journalism will transfer their experience on how stories are constructed and the information that serves to analyse issues, such as the dangers facing the planet, the war in Ukraine, the rescue work of the NGO Proactiva Open Arms, the humanitarian crises resulting from armed, political or social conflicts, as well as the silenced reality of the African continent, is transmitted. Their work reveals the existence of other narratives to tell journalistic stories.

The target audience of these conferences are students and professionals from the field of journalism and communication, as well as social sciences, diplomacy, international relations, political sciences, professionals from the world of cooperation and institutions working in the international arena, among others.

This activity is in line with the priority lines of action of the Extremaduran Cooperation Plan, strengthening capacities to promote more just, democratic societies, fostering global, critical, supportive and transformative citizenship.

The conference is part of the INNCODE project, an initiative that resulted from the collaboration between the Cooperation and Solidarity Action Office of the University of Extremadura and the Extremaduran International Cooperation Agency for Development of the Regional Government of Extremadura.

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation collaborates with the Vice-Rectorate for Students, Employment and Mobility in the organisation of this activity, which also counts with the collaboration of the Faculty of Documentation and Communication Sciences in Badajoz, where the conference will be taking place.
