The director of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, Juan Carlos Moreno, inaugurated the course “The Culture of Entertainment in the Worlds of Charles V: Social Life, Rituals, Parties, Games and Shows”, which addresses the construction of power and the image of the Spanish monarchy at the time of the emperor. This Campus Yuste course is part of the 24th edition of the University of Extremadura’s International Summer/Autumn Courses.

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation continues with its objective of delving into the figure and time of emperor Charles V in order to make a character and his time known. This was a crucial period in history, when decisions were taken and fundamental changes were brought about, which we need to understand in order to better comprehend today’s Europe.

The acting director general of External Action of the Regional Government of Extremadura and president of Yuste Foundation’s Executive Committee, Rosa Balas, opened the course “EU-Latin America and the Caribbean Relations in the Framework of the Presidencies of the Council of the U.E and the EU-CELAC and Iberoamerican Summits”, to be held until Thursday at the Monastery of San Jerónimo de Yuste.

From 27 to 29 June, Campus Yuste will become a forum for analysis, debate and knowledge transfer on relations between the European Union and Latin America under the perspective of the presidencies of the Council of the European Union, at a time when Spain is assuming that presidency. This circumstance presents an opportunity to strengthen relations between the two regions, taking the existing strong historical, political, cultural, economic and social relations between the country and the Ibero-American region into account.

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation offers 60 grants for the courses organised by the University of Extremadura that are included within the 10th International Virtual School CAVILA of the Association of Latin American Universities (AULA).

The board of trustees and the staff of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation regret the death of the 97-year-old French sociologist Alain Touraine, member of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste. Touraine assumed the Antonio Lucio Vivaldi Chair of the Academy during the award ceremony of the Carlos V European Award to Jorge Fernando Branco de Sampaio in 2004.

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation inaugurated the Carlos V European Award – Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe Doctoral Seminar. In this activity ten doctoral candidates who have been awarded one of the European Research and Mobility Grants on European Studies will be presenting their research work dealing with the topic “Culture, heritage, history and memory for the promotion of European values, integration and peace” from a multidisciplinary point of view.

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation will be visited by students from the Diplomatic School on Tuesday, 6th of June. They will learn about the Foundation’s work as well as the significance of this historic place as far as international relations are concerned.

Yuste Foundation has launched the project “Youth and Human Rights Activism” along with the Extremaduran Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AEXCID) with the aim of creating a meeting, support and networking platform of people interested in generating messages that transform society and raise awareness of the importance and value of respect for universal human rights.
