Yuste Foundation and the Routes of Charles V Present Three Didactic Guides
The editorial initiative aims to bring the historical and natural heritage of the region close to the youth. (05/04/2022)
The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation along with the European Routes of Emperor Charles V, the University of Extremadura through the Vice-Rectorate for Research and the Publications Service, and the Plan de Fomento de la Lectura de Extremadura have published the guides Carlos V y La Vera. Proyecto didáctico para aprender descubriendo and Wandering in La Vera: Meditations of An Emperor. They will be presented next Friday, 8 April at 12:30 pm at Yuste Foundation’s headquarters, which are located in the Royal Monastery of Yuste. The presentation will count with the participation of the mayor of Cuacos de Yuste and treasurer of the Network of the Routes of Emperor Charles V, José María Hernández García; the director-manager of the Network of the Routes of Emperor Charles V, Quintín Correas Domingo, and two of the authors of the guides and professors of the University of Extremadura, Ramón Pérez Parejo, Ignacio Chato and with the illustrator, Celia Conejero.
The objective of these editions is to spread the cultural and natural heritage of the region of La Vera among the youth. They focus especially on the historical experience that the presence of Emperor Charles V entailed during the last years of his life in Jarandilla and Yuste.
These three publications, which have been illustrated by Celia Conejero and Fermín Solís, are the result of the work carried out by a large group of specialists in Didactics of Geography, of History and of Language and Literature of the University of Extremadura, including Francisco Rodríguez Jiménez, Juan L. de la Montaña; Tamar Groves; Ana Hernández and Sigfrido Vázquez. They have managed to tackle a wide set of topics that address the geography, heritage, art, festivals, gastronomy and legends that make up the heritage wealth of La Vera, as well as the history of Charles V, paying special attention to the time he spent in this region and in Guadalupe.
The publication Carlos V y La Vera. Proyecto didáctico para aprender descubriendo, illustrated by Celia Conejero, offers a proposal where the reader becomes an active protagonist of an exploration and discovery experience. On the other hand, the publication Wandering in La Vera: Meditations of An Emperor – published in Spanish and English in order to reach foreign tourists who visit the region – is illustrated by Fermín Solís, and shows a meditative vision of Charles V, a man who, after becoming the most powerful in the world, secedes in a remote monastery awaiting the end of his days.
