2ND SESSIONS ON SECURITY AND DEFENCE IN THE IBERO-AMERICAN SPACE
18-19 September 2024. CAJALMENDRALEJO assembly hall (Cáceres)
The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation aims to contribute to the promotion of democracy, respect for human rights, the fostering of peace and international harmony, as well as the integral, harmonious, balanced, and sustainable development of all peoples and nations of the world. This is achieved especially through the promotion of culture, research, the dissemination of knowledge, and social integration.
The Ministry of Defence promotes the development of a defence culture to ensure that Spanish society understands, values, and identifies with its history and the collective and effective efforts by which the Armed Forces safeguard national interests. Fostering defence awareness and culture is a top priority. Bringing defence closer to the citizen is an essential part of National Security culture, as a tool to achieve a committed society that plays an active role in its own security.
For years, the Ministry of Defence and the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation have collaborated in organising joint academic activities, among which the defence sessions focused on Europe and Ibero-America hold particular importance.
The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation organises the Security in Ibero-America Sessions under the umbrella of the SCHOOL OF GUADALUPE, with the aim of promoting dialogue on security and defence policy, including new threats and challenges in the international strategic arena, with particular attention to Europe and Ibero-America, as well as the adaptation and response of the Armed Forces to new challenges.
The SCHOOL OF GUADALUPE emerged from various activities that were organised by the Foundation as part of the event of exceptional public interest, the “Holy Year of Guadalupe”, aimed at promoting and revitalising local culture and tourism through the restoration, appreciation, and dissemination of cultural and natural heritage, the promotion of religious initiatives such as the pilgrimage route, and the strengthening of ties with Ibero-America.
