Close to 600 students from 22 countries have enrolled in the 2024 Campus Yuste courses

Close to 600 students from 22 countries have enrolled in the training programme Campus Yuste, which is organised by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, as part of the 25th International Summer/Autumn Courses of the University of Extremadura. Of the 578 registered individuals, 218 participated either in person or online. (30/07/2024).

The students who have enrolled come from Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, China, Colombia, Ivory Coast, Cuba, Ecuador, Egypt, Spain, Honduras, Italy, Morocco, Mexico, Nicaragua, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Romania, and Turkey.

The 2024 Campus Yuste training programme consisted of four courses: “Portugal, 1974: Society, Culture, and Literature in the Carnation Revolution”, “Conflicts in the Worlds of Charles V: The Enemies of the Empire”, “Reinventing Europe in the Face of Current and Future Challenges”, and “European Union – Latin America and the Caribbean Relations: New Times and Renewed Commitments”.

More than one hundred experts, academics, politicians, and internationally renowned and prestigious professors participated. Some of them included the former president of Mexico (2006-2012), Felipe Calderón; the former minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru (2006-2011) and former ambassador to Spain (2016-2018), José Antonio García Belaúnde; Mexican federal deputy Margarita Zavala; National History Award winner, Encarnación Lemus; emeritus professor of the University of Coimbra, Carlos Reis; intelligence and digital strategy consultant, Marta Plana; director of International Relations of the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), Cristina Manzano; former president of the National Council for Science, Higher Education, and Technological Development of Croatia, Mirjana Polić Bopić; Jean Monnet ad personam professor and vice president of the Royal European Academy of Doctors, Teresa Freixes; principal researcher for Latin America at the Elcano Royal Institute, Carlos Malamud; full professor and vice president of the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, José Antonio Frontera; president of the Union of European Federalists, Domènec Ruiz Davesa; and the representative in Europe of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) group, Pablo Chiesa, among others.

Campus Yuste is a training programme aimed at developing specialised courses and meetings from a multidisciplinary perspective, designed to promote debate and reflection among university students, researchers, and professionals on the process of European construction and integration, as well as current European issues and other topics related to the history and memory of Europe and Ibero-America. In addition to lectures, presentations, and round tables, the programme aims to facilitate the exchange of ideas and opinions among attendees through debates.

Campus Yuste has counted with the collaboration of the University of Évora, the European Routes of Emperor Charles V, the European Council of the European Movement (CEXME), EU-LAC Foundation, the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico, Euroamérica Foundation, the Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI), the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), the Regional Government of Extremadura, Patrimonio Nacional, and the Provincial Councils of Cáceres and Badajoz. Additionally, it is sponsored by MAFRESA.
