Yuste Foundation and the Ministry of Defence Are Organising Sessions to Analyse the Role of the Armed Forces in Ibero-America

The “2nd Sessions on Security and Defence in the Ibero-American Space”, organised by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Defence, will be held on 18 and 19 September in the afternoon at the Caja Almendralejo assembly hall in Cáceres. Topics to be discussed include the role of the Armed Forces in managing irregular immigration, the relationship between organised crime and the State in Ibero-America, and the fight against drug trafficking in the Ibero-American space. With these sessions, the Ministry of Defence aims to both inform and engage Spanish society with the effective and solidarity-driven efforts of the Armed Forces in safeguarding national interests, and to bring defence closer to citizens as an essential part of national security culture as it is a means to foster a committed and active society in its own security.

Yuste Foundation, within the framework of the School of Guadalupe, is organising the sessions to promote dialogue on security and defence policy, including new threats and challenges in the international strategic environment, with a focus on Europe and Ibero-America, and to examine the adaptation and response of the Armed Forces to new challenges.

Speakers include the Deputy Defence Representative in Cáceres, colonel Vicente Lunar Bravo of the Army Logistics Corps; professor Sonia Alda Mejías from the Pontifical University of Comillas and Camilo José Cela University; captain Ricardo José Valdés Fernández, head of the Geopolitical Analysis Area at DICOES-DIGENPOL; colonel of artillery Alberto Fajardo López, head of J5 MOPS and; full professor Sagrario Morán Blanco from the Rey Juan Carlos University, and Juan Carlos Moreno Piñero, director of Yuste Foundation.
