Creating synergies to increase the presence of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation in Cáceres and Badajoz, while also strengthening collaboration in the development of joint activities, were among the main conclusions of the separate meetings held by Fernando Pizarro, director of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, with the mayor of Cáceres, Rafael Mateos, and the mayor of Badajoz, Ignacio Gragera. During the meeting with the mayor of Cáceres, the parties also agreed on a number of strategies to enable the Foundation to work closely with the city’s bid to become European Capital of Culture in 2031. This is a transformative project aimed at driving urban development and fostering long-term social, cultural and economic growth.

At the meeting with Ignacio Gragera, the Foundation’s director expressed his interest in ensuring that the Foundation’s activities also become part of everyday life in Badajoz. “Yuste Foundation belongs to all the people of Extremadura. It is therefore important that we also organise meetings and events beyond the walls of the Monastery and bring culture, education and research to emblematic places such as Badajoz”, Pizarro affirmed.

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation is a non-profit public organisation with a cultural, scientific, research and knowledge-dissemination remit, forming part of the public foundation sector of the Regional Government of Extremadura. Its objectives are to help strengthen and consolidate the existing ties between Extremadura, Europe and Ibero-America, based on the principles of loyalty, respect for each party’s identity, mutual benefit and solidarity.

It pursues these objectives by supporting the promotion of democracy, respect for human rights, and the advancement of peace and international understanding through the promotion of culture, research, the dissemination of knowledge and social integration.
