According to the authors of this book, Hernando Méndez de Soto, better known as Hernando de Soto, was born about the year 1500 in Jerez (today Jerez de los Caballeros), province of Badajoz. In this book, Hernando de Soto: Más allá del valor, written by Feliciano Correa and Juan José Estepa García, the journey of Hernando de Soto through the lands of Florida is described in detail, supporting this journey with maps, illustrations, a multitude of documents and references to other studies consulted. In turn, the Jerez origin of the Extremaduran adventurer is demonstrated.

The so-called “Adelantado de la Florida” entered this unexplored American land, making it known to the Europeans, commanding an expedition that would travel some 8,000 kilometres through what make up ten states of North America today: Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana, Arkansas and Texas. The present work is based on the study of the texts by Garcilaso de la Vega, Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo, the Portuguese Fidalgo de Elvas, Antonio de Herrera and Extremadurans Antonio del Solar and José de Rújula. This is accompanied by a detailed study of the future of Hernando de Soto in Florida combined with the study and elucidation of the true birthplace of the Extremaduran character.
