YUSTE FOUNDATION’S BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPROVES ITS ANNUAL ACCOUNTS AS WELL AS THE 2023 ACTION PLAN

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation’s Board of Trustees, which met this morning under the presidency of the President of Regional Government of Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara, approved its 2023Action Plan. The Plan comprises a comprehensive and diverse programme of activities that intends to continue delving into the analysis and knowledge of the European reality as well as to promote and consolidate the links between Extremadura, Europe and Latin America. (18/11/2022)

The training programme known as “Campus Yuste” stands out among the activities that mark the 2023 Action Plan. It offers four international summer-autumn courses, which are organised in collaboration with the University of Extremadura. Campus Yuste has established itself as an agora that encourages debate, reflection and knowledge among academics, researchers and professionals on the process of European construction and integration, as well as current European issues and other matters related to the history and memory of Europe and Ibero-America.

Another programme that seeks to create forums for debate and reflection is “Aula Abierta”, which will include already consolidated courses, such as the “Yuste Meetings on the Transition”; the conferences “Revealing Conflicts. Journalism and Communication for International Cooperation”, and “The Spanish Exile in Argentina”. New proposals will be added to the former, such as the training course for judges and magistrates, which will be held thanks to the agreement signed between Yuste Foundation and the General Council of the Judiciary, among other proposals.

“The School of Guadalupe”, which includes the activities that Yuste Foundation carries out in Guadalupe, will light new paths to foster meetings and knowledge between Extremadura, Europe and Ibero-America, via congresses and conferences on different areas related to the Ibero-American space. In this sense, the 3rd International Congress on “Relations between Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean: A meeting space” stands out among them, where Americanist young researchers, doctors and doctoral students will be able to meet in order to present their new lines of research.

Once again, Yuste Foundation’s most outstanding activity will be the delivery of the Carlos V European Award, a prize that recognises the work of people, organisations, projects or initiatives that have contributed to the general knowledge and enhancement of Europe’s cultural and historical values or to the unification of the European Union. The board of trustees approved the call for the16th edition of this award.

RESEARCH, CULTURE AND NETWORKS

The Foundation’s academic and research area will focus on already consolidated activities. These are the calls for the “Carlos V European Award European Research and Mobility Grants for European Studies” and the Doctoral Seminar, where the papers chosen through these grants are presented; as well as the “Research Prize to Ibero-American Doctoral Theses”.

Consolidated activities such as “Tribuna EuroIberoamérica” will continue taking place. This is a programme that includes presentations by experts in different locations of Extremadura. In addition, the Foundation’s commitment to cultural and awareness programmes will remain, as may be seen with the celebration of the Emperor’s Concerts; the Luis Alcoriza Award of the Young Jury, which is delivered in collaboration with the Iberian Film Festival of Badajoz; the school programmes on Europe and Ibero-America, to be carried out in different educational centres of the region; the Network of Routes of Emperor Charles V, whose board is presided over by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation; and dissemination actions that Yuste Foundation will organise on the occasion of the Spanish presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2023.

The Foundation’s editorial line will expand its catalogue with the publication of several volumes in its different book collections, which focus on historical topics related to Europe and Latin America and on reflecting on current Euro-Ibero-American socio-political events. It will also expand with the new publication expected in its Doctoral Theses book collection and the compilation of the Academy of Yuste’s 2022 Newsletter’s monthly issues, which will be published in an Annual for it to become a source of information and consultation.

In addition, Yuste Foundation will continue to work with other national and international associations, foundations and entities in order to strengthen networks and build bridges between Europe and Ibero-America.
