Mario Draghi, president of the European Central Bank (2011-2019) and president of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Italy (2021-2022), will receive the Carlos V European Award next Friday, June 14th, at 11 am at the Monastery of San Jerónimo de Yuste in a solemn ceremony that will be presided over by His Majesty King Felipe VI, honorary president of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation.

The director general of External Action and member of the board of trustees of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, Pablo Hurtado, reaffirmed today that Extremadura is committed to cooperation as the only way to solve present and future challenges at the inauguration of the International Congress “Cultural Routes and Itineraries for the Development of Territories”. In his view, understanding, respect, and collaboration are universal values that can address current and future challenges and conflicts.

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science, and Culture (OEI), the Ministry of Culture and Heritage of Ecuador, the Metropolitan Institute of Heritage of Quito, the Secretariat of Culture of Quito, the Autonomous University of Zacatecas in Mexico, and the European Institute of Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe (EICR), within the framework of the ADELANTE 2 Programme for Triangular Cooperation between the European Union, Latin America, and the Caribbean, have organised the “International Congress on Cultural Routes and Itineraries for the Development of Territories”, which will be held from May 28th to 30th at the San Francisco cultural complex in Cáceres and in the region of La Vera, located in northern Cáceres.

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation organised the session “A Glance Towards Europe: Business Issues and Challenges” in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Yuste and the Cáceres Business Circle in the framework of Europe Day, which was celebrated last 9th of May. The session was directed by Mari Cruz Sánchez Escobedo, a professor from the University of Extremadura.

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation opened the call to apply for 120 grants of the Campus Yuste training programme. These are meant to cover the registration fee, accommodation expenses, and maintenance in the 25th edition of the University of Extremadura’s international summer-autumn courses.

The doctoral thesis La Constitución de Cádiz y la modernidad política en Cuba: actores, prácticas y conceptos (1810-1823), by Cuban Alain J. Santos Fuentes, was awarded the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation’s 2024 Research Prize to Ibero-American Doctoral Theses. The award ceremony took place within the framework of the 5th International Congress “Relations Between Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean: Economy and International Conflicts”, which was held on April 10th at the Royal Monastery of Santa María de Guadalupe.

The jury of the 17th edition of the Carlos V European Award, granted by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, decided to award the prize to Mario Draghi “because his leadership at the helm of the European Central Bank implementing decisive and risky measures managed, in the midst of the recession in the European economy, to maintain the strength of the euro and the autonomy of the ECB, as well as to save the single currency allowing Europe to emerge strengthened from the aforementioned crisis”.

The European Commission awarded the 2023 European Heritage Label to the Monastery of Yuste, thus recognising its importance in the creation of present-day Europe and because it is “a living monument that captures part of the continent’s memory”.

The director general for External Action of the Regional Government of Extremadura, Pablo Hurtado, inaugurated the “5th International Congress on Relations Between Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe.
