Yuste Foundation Hosts a European Meeting to Address Women’s Contribution to Sustainable Development in Rural Areas

Over 40 participants, mostly women, from different sectors across the region of La Vera (Cáceres, Extremadura) met on 2 and 3 October at the Monastery of San Jerónimo de Yuste and in Pasarón de la Vera for the activity “Not Letting None Behind: The Challenge of Rural Areas”, framed within the European project funded by the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values Programme (CERV), “Her Voice: Her Power, Our Future! Women Leading the Way to Sustainability”, in which representatives from municipalities, institutions and universities from Slovenia, France, Italy, Romania, Poland, Latvia and Spain also took part.

Marcelino Oreja, academic of Yuste and awardee of the Carlos V European Award, claimed last Wednesday in Yuste a “united Europe with a social and protective scope that develops policies such as the fight against climate change, the adaptation of the regulatory framework to the digital society or the control of external borders”, with the aim of building open and cohesive societies.

This morning, the Royal Monastery of Yuste hosted the award ceremony for the Thirteenth Carlos V European Prize awarded by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, which for the first time is awarded to an initiative, the Cultural Itineraries of the Council of Europe. In his speech, His Majesty King Felipe VI highlighted the need to work collectively to tackle global challenges with a Europe that is more united, stronger and more effective in meeting the expectations of its citizens.

His Majesty the King will preside Europe Day on Thursday, 9 May, at the Royal Monastery of Yuste, the award ceremony of the Thirteenth Carlos V European Prize, awarded by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation, which for the first time has been awarded to an initiative, the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe, which have served to turn culture into an instrument for better knowledge of Europe and Europeans.
