Colombia Hosts an International Congress Organised by Yuste Foundation on Relations between Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe

As a continuation of the 3rd International Congress on “Relations Between Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe: Images and Views on Both Shores”, which was held in March at the Royal Monastery of Guadalupe (Spain), the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation has organised the 4th International Congress on “Relations Between Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe: Shared Values and Common Challenges” along with the Research Centre for Studies on Ibero-America of the Rey Juan Carlos University and the University of Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), which is to be held at the auditorium of the cloister of San Agustin of the University of Cartagena de Indias on 13 and 14 April 2023. The minister of Justice and Law of Colombia, Néstor Iván Osuna; the ambassador of Spain to Colombia, Joaquín María de Arístegui Laborde; the rector of the University of Cartagena de Indias, William Malkún Castillejo, and the director of Yuste Foundation, Juan Carlos Moreno Piñero will inaugurate this congress on Thursday, 13th of April. In addition, Moreno Piñero will also give the keynote speech entitled “A Quick Vision of Europe”.

The subjects dealt with during the first day will delve into the progress in mutual cooperation in the field of culture, integration and identity between both regions and the common ground concerning international security and energy will be analysed. The speakers of the second day of the congress will explain the important role played by civil society in Latin America as the main actor in the political and economic development of the region and they will discuss democracy as a key element in relations between the two areas of the Atlantic.

In addition to the presentation of these subjects by professors from the University of Extremadura, the Rey Juan Carlos University, the Carlos III University, the Research Centre for Studies on Ibero-America, and the University of the North, Vanessa Monterroza Baleta, legislative adviser in the Congress of the Republic of Colombia and Alumni of Yuste, will also be taking part.

These sessions count with the collaboration of the Masters in History of the University of the North, the Regional Government of Extremadura, the Provincial Council of Cáceres, the Provincial Council of Badajoz and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of the Government of Spain.
