YUSTE FOUNDATION ORGANISES A WEBINAR THAT WILL DELVE INTO THE SPIRITUAL RELEVANCE OF GUADALUPE AND ITS INFLUENCE IN THE MEXICAN WORSHIP

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation organises the webinar “From Legend to Cult and from Cult to Myth: Two Virgins, Two Periods” on Thursday, 26 November, at 17:30 pm, in which the Professor of American History at the Complutense University of Madrid, Rosa Martínez de Codes; the Professor of Hispanic Studies at the University of Paris 8, Françoise Crémoux, and the guardian and custodian of the Royal Monastery of Santa María de Guadalupe, Fray Guillermo Cerrato Chamizo, will participate.

When commemorating the “25th Anniversary of the Declaration of the Royal Monastery of Santa María de Guadalupe as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO” and the “Holy Year of Guadalupe 2021”, Yuste Foundation wishes to delve into the religious and spiritual meaning of Guadalupe with this webinar; on the relevance of the Marian worship of Guadalupe and its relation and influence in the Mexican devotion of Guadalupe.

In fact, Pope John Paul II, on the occasion of his apostolic journey to Spain and his visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Cáceres on 4 November 1982, claimed: “The great esteem I have for the Virgin of Guadalupe of Mexico is unquestionable. But I realise that her origins are here. I should have come here before going to the Tepeyac Basilica to better understand Mexican devotion”.

CYCLE OF MEETINGS “GUADALUPE AS A DESTINY”

The webinar “From Legend to Cult and from Cult to Myth: Two Virgins, Two Periods” is part of the cycle of meetings “Guadalupe Destino”, which will enable Yuste Foundation to hold a series of public interest sessions, promoting dialogue on issues such as governance, science, history and culture.

This series of webinars is part of the events of exceptional public interest in Guadalupe: the “25th Anniversary of the Declaration of the Royal Monastery of Santa María de Guadalupe as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO” and the “Holy Year of Guadalupe 2021”.
