Winner essay of the Second Call “Pensamiento Iberoamericano”, which was organised by the CEXECI (the Extremaduran Centre for Studies and Cooperation with Ibero-America). In this work, the economist and political scientist Viktor Sukup, who passed away while the edition of this book was being carried out, analyses the history and reality of the region of the Caribbean in depth; the multiplicity of the peoples and cultures that, as a result of the colonial process, make up that English, Dutch, French, Spanish, Creole, Papiamento …, speaking mosaic of countries, nations and territories, that should naturally be part of the Latin American and Caribbean Community of Nations.
