Yuste Foundation Holds a Congress in Guatemala on Cultures and Identities in the Ibero-American Space

The Italian educator Sofia Corradi, better known as “Mamma Erasmus” and awarded the Carlos V European Award in 2016, has passed away at the age of 91 in Rome. Corradi studied at the Columbia Graduate School of Law, earning a Master in Comparative Law. She graduated with honours in Law from the University of Rome La Sapienza and conducted research on the right to education as a fundamental human right at the UN Human Rights Commission, the Hague Academy of International Law, and the London School of Economics.

The President of the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation’s Executive Committee and Director General of External Action of the Regional Government of Extremadura, Rosa Balas, presented the book Peace and European values as a potential model for integration and progress in a global world in Rome. This publication encompasses the research works of the ten researchers who were granted a Sofia Corradi, Mamma Erasmus-Carlos V European Award Research and Mobility Grant for European Studies.

The event, organised by the European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation with the Office of the European Parliament in Italy and the Spanish Embassy in Italy, is included in the presentation of a book that includes the research work of the Sofia Corradi- Carlos V European Award Research and Mobility Grants for European Studies.

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation’s Board of Trustees met in Mérida under the presidency of the President of the Regional Government of Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara, and approved its 2020 Action Plan, which includes a broad and diverse activity programme that will contribute to keep delving into the study and analysis of European reality as well as to foster and consolidate the ties between Extremadura, Europe and Ibero-America.

The European and Ibero-American Academy of Yuste Foundation organises the conference, “American Memory. Recovering Leading Figures from Extremadura in the New World” tomorrow, 12 December -in Trujillo (Cáceres)-, in order to enhance the visibility of leading figures from Extremadura who hold some relation with Ibero-America and whose actions has been significant as far as history is concerned, although their service may not be so well known.
